The core operating points of the scroll condensing unit are: preheating before startup, starting and stopping in sequence, strictly preventing liquid slugging, monitoring pressure and temperature, and performing regular maintenance; reverse rotation, self-vacuum pumping, and oil-starved operation of the scroll compressor are strictly prohibited.
1. Pre-Startup Inspection (Mandatory)
Electrical System
Confirm the power voltage and phase are normal, with fluctuation ≤ ±10% of the rated value.
Check that wiring terminals are fastened without looseness or burning; control switches and protective devices (high/low pressure, overheating, overload) are in good condition.
Ensure the compressor crankcase heater is powered on for preheating for no less than 2 to 8 hours, and the oil temperature is ≥ 14°C (to prevent liquid slugging and oil dilution).
Refrigeration System
Verify high and low pressure gauges and thermometers display normal readings.
Confirm all valves (suction, discharge, liquid supply, maintenance valves) are in the correct open/closed state.
Air-cooled type: The condenser fins are clean and unclogged, and the fan rotates in the correct direction.
Water-cooled type: The cooling water flow rate, pressure and temperature are normal, and the water quality meets standards.
Check pipelines and joints for no leaks (soapy water can be used for leak detection).
Lubrication System
Confirm the oil level in the compressor oil sight glass is between 1/2 and 2/3; the type and quantity of refrigeration oil comply with requirements.
2. Startup Operation (Standard Procedure)
Air-Cooled Unit
Switch on the main power supply, and confirm the controller and protective devices function normally.
Start the condensing fan (If staged control is equipped, run at low speed first, then high speed).
Start the compressor after a delay of 3 to 5 minutes.
Observe the suction/discharge pressure, temperature, current and oil level until all parameters gradually stabilize within the normal range.
Water-Cooled Unit
Start the cooling water pump → Confirm normal water flow and stable pressure.
Start the cooling tower fan.
Start the compressor after a delay.
Normal Operation Reference (R404A/R507 Medium Temperature)
Suction pressure: 0.3~0.5 MPa
Discharge pressure: 1.2~1.8 MPa (air-cooled); 1.0~1.5 MPa (water-cooled)
Discharge temperature: ≤ 90~105°C
Suction temperature: Superheat of 5~10°C (to avoid liquid slugging)
3. Shutdown Operation (Standard Procedure)
Stop the compressor first (emergency shutdown under load is strictly prohibited).
Stop the condensing fan/cooling water pump after a delay of 5 to 10 minutes (to ensure heat dissipation and cooling).
Long-term shutdown: Close the liquid supply valve and suction valve, cut off the main power supply; drain all residual water from pipelines in winter to prevent freezing and cracking.
Key Prohibitions
The compressor can only be restarted after an interval of at least 5 minutes following shutdown (to prevent liquid slugging and impact damage).
Frequent start-stop operation is strictly prohibited (≤ 6 times per hour).
4. Key Monitoring During Operation (Record every 2 to 4 hours)
Pressure: Stable suction and discharge pressure without drastic fluctuations.
Temperature: Normal discharge temperature, motor winding temperature and oil temperature.
Current: Compressor current ≤ rated value, with balanced three phases.
Sound & Vibration: No abnormal knocking, friction or unusual noise.
Oil level: Stable without dropping, no foam (oil-refrigerant mixing).
Leakage: No refrigerant/oil seepage from pipelines and joints.
5. Strictly Forbidden Operations (Core Red Lines)
Reverse rotation of the compressor is strictly prohibited (the scroll plates will be damaged instantly): Always confirm the rotation direction after power connection/wiring.
Pumping vacuum with the compressor is strictly prohibited: A vacuum pump must be used, with vacuum degree ≤ 30 Pa.
Liquid slugging (wet compression) is strictly prohibited:
Fully preheat before startup to ensure proper superheat.
No frost on the suction return pipeline; maintain reasonable suction superheat.
A large amount of liquid refrigerant returning to the compressor is forbidden.
Oil-starved operation and operation with deteriorated oil are strictly prohibited: Replace oil regularly and inspect oil quality.
Overpressure, overtemperature and overload operation are strictly prohibited: Identify the root cause before resetting after protection tripping.
Fastening and welding under pressure are strictly prohibited: Perform maintenance only after pressure relief.
Mixing different refrigerants or using incorrect refrigeration oil is strictly prohibited: Charge with the specified model for the unit.
